About Us: Nestled in the picturesque Cowanesque Valley of northern Pennsylvania, River Valley Club (RVC) is a semi-private, 18-hole golf course offering spectacular mountain views, stunning elevation changes, and a relaxed, rural atmosphere. With a rich history dating back to 1964, RVC prides itself on being a cornerstone of the community’s outdoor lifestyle, which includes hunting, fishing, tourism, and, of course, golf.
Our course features 9 original holes designed by Jeff Cornish and an additional 9 holes added in the late 1980s. With the recent installation of a state-of-the-art Rainbird irrigation system in 2023, we are proud to provide players with a high-quality golf experience in a laid-back setting.
Position Overview: River Valley Club seeks a dedicated and skilled Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the maintenance, operation, and overall condition of our golf course and practice facilities. Working closely with the Clubhouse Manager and the Greens Committee, the Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of playability, aesthetics, and environmental stewardship on our grounds. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their career or for an experienced professional who values a balanced, rural lifestyle.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the health and performance of all turfgrass, with a focus on bentgrass and Poa annua (or other relevant turf types).
Supervise, hire, train, and schedule the grounds crew team to ensure efficient and effective operations.
Operate and maintain the irrigation system, including the new Rainbird system, as well as the pump station.
Oversee the maintenance and repair of all groundskeeping equipment.
Apply pesticides and fertilizers as needed, ensuring compliance with all regulations (Pesticide Applicator License, or ability to obtain promptly, is required).
Monitor and manage turfgrass diseases, pests, and water usage.
Collaborate with the Clubhouse Manager and Greens Committee to develop and execute plans for course improvements, environmental sustainability, and exceptional playing conditions.
Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment for all staff.
Qualifications and Skills:
Proven experience in golf course maintenance and management, with a strong background in turfgrass science.
Expertise in irrigation systems, turfgrass diseases, and equipment operation/maintenance.
Leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a small team.
Valid Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain promptly).
Strong organizational and communication skills.
A passion for environmental stewardship and attention to detail.
RVCC is a scenic 18- hole golf course located in Westfield, PA.
At RVCC, not only will you experience a great game of golf, but you will be immersed in the beautiful scenery of Northcentral Pennsylvania. We offer an 18 hole course designed by Geoff Cornish that has sand traps, mountainous terrain, and water hazards.
River Valley appears easy to the eye as it is a fairly short wide open golf course. However, you will be challenged with many unlevel lies and putts that can be difficult to read.
The course is well maintained and allows for a rewarding round of golf. Since walking can sometimes be challenging, golf carts are available for rental.
Our season usually begins around the first of April and runs through the month of November (we try to stay open as long as mother nature will allow!). We are open to the public, and have very reasonable, seasonal memberships available for singles, married couples and families.
