Clemson University's Department of Campus Recreation is seeking candidates for the open Outdoor Recreation Graduate Assistant Position:
The Outdoor Recreation Graduate Assistant will serve in an administrative and leadership role with the Clemson Outdoor Recreation and Education Program. Applicants must be accepted into a graduate program at Clemson University in order to be selected. This position is 9 months/25 hours per week with an annual stipend renewable on a yearly basis and is dependent on the maintenance of satisfactory academic standing. Hours may include weekday office hours, weeknight hours, and occasional weekend trips. Onsite hourly summer employment is strongly preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hiring, training and supervising all Outdoor Recreation student employees under the guidance of the Outdoor Recreation Associate Director
Developing the trip and event calendar for spring, fall and summer semesters
Overseeing marketing and promotion of the program around campus and the community
Ensuring that all risk management policies and procedures are being properly implemented
Assisting the Outdoor Recreation Associate Director in the evaluation of all programs and staff
Coordinating and partnering with other on-campus organizations for programs, classes, and events
Assisting the Climbing Wall with management of staff with training and maintaining policies and protocols
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Knowledge of use and maintenance of various types of outdoor equipment
Knowledge of various computer software systems; MS Office, Outlook, Fusion, etc.
Skills and teaching/trip leading experience in backpacking and at least one of the following areas: whitewater paddling, flatwater paddling, rock climbing, or mountain biking
Knowledge and experience in employee supervision and training
QUALIFICATIONS:
Acceptance to graduate program at Clemson University
Hold First Aid, CPR, & AED certification or acquire such certification within 30 days of hire.
Must meet requirements of the Campus Recreation vehicle policy as a van driver.
Position subject to criminal background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Wilderness First Responder
Experience in multiple outdoor recreation activities with certifications from ACA, AMGA, etc.
Bike maintenance experience
American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED instructor certification
